7 1/2 min????

This song goes on entirely too long, boring synths, and a crashing waves loop, and inferior, repetitive, homogenous drums. Kind of overindulgent, cheesy melody. Nothing really has any power in this song, I'm kind of waiting for the breakdown, or a second verse, or a chorus, or bridge, or... hell, anything. Also, it's not really very ambient, the drums and the melodies and key imply action. Not much really soothing about this piece.

Sorry if this all sounds harsh. It seems to me like you worked on this for about 2 hours and called it a day.

There can be more to ambient than calming sounds. The melodies and drums add some originality and makes it different from all the other ambient songvs out there.
You kind of contradict yourself when you say that the drums are repetitive and nothing has any power. Well, ambient isn't meant to have all that power, it's supposed to be soft and relaxing. Then you backtrack and say that it's not really ambient because the drums and melodies aren't simple enough. That's kind of the opposite to what you implied before. Sure, it may repeat a lot, but that's a part of ambient. If I cut it down too much, it'd have too much action in the riffs and it'd sound even less ambient. So it's stretched out to let it all sink in.

I get that you don't really like it, but I put a lot more work into it than you think. There was a decent amount of trial and error in order to get to the starting point. I needed to pick out instruments that aren't too overpowering, but can still handle the sound. I had to come up with a progression to which I could layer them all in together, I had to come up with over a dozen riffs that can all interweave with eachother. I needed to add sound effects into the background to make it more soothing. I needed to balance out the instruments so they weren't too loud but not too quiet. I needed to create a drum loop that was not too overpowering but pleasant in the background, ambient doesn't mix with percussion, so it wasn't easy to make the drums sound like they were meant to be there, to give it a bit of extra drive. 2hours? I worked on this for a whole day, probably 8-9 hours straight.

I don't mean to sound harsh in my response, but maybe you'd sound less harsh if you put some honest constructive criticism into your review.
I'm thinking this may because I sounded harsh when I reviewed one of your songs, but I did offer constructive advice and an honest opinion.

Grindddddddoooopy

There's like a ceaseless amount of glitchiness to this track. How you get sooooo gooood

I definitely didn't find this track to be unlistenable, what I do think is a ground-up distorted, wet bass needs to be applied in daubs.

Thanks for sprinkling metal shavings all over me.

LJCoffee responds:

Oh thank you! - Now that you're covered in metal shavings I guess this would be a good time to break out the electromagnet eh?

I know this track has a few problems but then again it was all experimental - I really wasn't worried about much of it - I just wanted to test a few new techniques and a couple of new synths.

Thanks for the listen B!

stalk to you later! ... ummm.. I meant Talk.. yeah... just talk and in case you were wondering, it was definitely NOT me that stole your underwear from the laundry room that time... uuhh.. thatis, IF you MIGHT have ummm... accidentaly lost some... yeah

DOOOOOPPPP

When the sawpads came stampeding in with the lowpass filter, I kinda crapped my pants, because that was AWESOME.

I love your transitions, that's what sets you apart, methinks. The way you can bring parts in with soooo much power, it just seems effortless. You make me wanna do moooosic

synteza responds:

mooooosic, like, like a cow? like, bovine? like a cow? mooo? SWEET!

I was about to say...

If you turned that damn BOOM into a kick, I'm going to kick you. Then it vanished and sexyness ensued. Man, that saw at the end... wow! Vibrato and heavy reverb, I guess, are the keys to my heart, because fuck that sounded so niiiiiice

synteza responds:

BOOM

I think I'll eat a bass

I've always liked your instrumentation, but I don't know if I've ever pointed that out. That pad you brought in when the bass was all lonely in the middle of the song was pretty awesome. Nice bell melody to drag the song further into the part of my brain that is all sticky...

-ac-

synteza responds:

i don't know to what degree having a sticky part in your brain is acceptable, but i'm sure you know better than me anyway. enjoy your bass!

Wow this is an awesome ambient track

I really, REALLY like the panning in this piece. Especially when it sounds like a droplet goes to a babbling brook and then to a boil and back down to a drop, with the harmonic bell sweeping from the left at first to the right... man... all sorts of trippy sound effects... this is pretty tight man.

Hahaha :D Well, Admiral, thank you very much! I must admit that I was in some sort of weird mental state at the moment I made this... Thanks again!

The little creepy voice haunting the anti-phase of this track reminds me of Pico's dead classmates, and how I eerily unnerving it was to play Pico the first time all those years ago.
It sounds really amazing, you know how to "move a sub". Pompous ass! jk, or am I? huh! huh?

-ac-

apimusic responds:

I'm telling you, that sub was NOT moving!!!

I love you a lot, and I don't want you to injure me.

bump bump bump bump

Judging this as a pico piece, I'm not sure, because I haven't yet figured out what it means to write a pico slow song.

However, on it's own merits:

I really like where this song could go, it feels like it's built up a really cool atmosphere, for a really sick melody to come in and just work that pad like a french whore, but I guess with 60 seconds to work with, we're left to wonder. Bah, another good artist that I have to pay attention to now! haha

-ac-

Envy responds:

hoohoo, I really like this song, just cause I like how calm it is. I have no idea what pico song means either, so this was a ballpark guess. Thanks for the review!

Just to return the favor :)

I didn't think this was a bad piece, it has the EXACT pico feel, in my opinion. I can picture little cartoon schoolkids killing eachother to this, quite easily. Pretty cool melody, even if it is a bit repetitive. I think you did a really good job creating the pico feel.

-ac-

Envy responds:

Well I think it was a bad piece... I just wish it wasnt so repetitive, and high pitched and annoying... BLEGH

Ear sex FTW

OK. Ideas...

Shit. I don't have any.

But I can say that this song is the sonic equivalent to a nice tuxedo, or a jeweled cup: Pimp. It sounds like you've arranged this like a full track, so I'm not sure what the demo is all about... ok fuck I just got to thABRUPTENDINGat. Why don't you just fade it out? :)

-ac-

SolusLunes responds:

That's exactly the problem :D

Though that's a good idea.

I'll try that.
